Bonnyrigg has a good choice of local shops, cafes and restaurants including supermarkets, a post-office, chemist and bank. The nearby Straiton Retail park offers a whole host of big names, including Sainsbury’s, Marks & Spencer and IKEA.
The town also boasts a number of amenities, including a pool and gym. There is a choice of golf courses and the nearby Hillend Ski Centre offers sports of a different kind. The area has a choice of nurseries and primary schools, along with the well-regarded Lasswade High School.
For those who like walking, cycling and horse riding the surrounding countryside (which includes the beautiful Pentland Hills) is full of interesting places to explore. There are lots of attractions to visit, including the world-famous Rosslyn Chapel.
Within a couple of miles of Edinburgh’s by-pass, Bonnyrigg has excellent transport links to the city and beyond. There are rapid and frequent bus connections and, thanks to the new Borders Railway Line, you can get from the nearby Eskbank station to Edinburgh in about 18 minutes.
